HOW TO: Wear Black Lipstick.

Hey Guys and Dolls,

I recently uploaded a Makeup tutorial on my youtube channel, it was inspired by Halloween and a gorgeous black Liquid lipstick from Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I had a few ladies message me saying they have always found it difficult rocking a Jet black liquid lipstick and If it would be possible to give a few tips on How to Wear a Black Lipstick.

The video below is a short clip from the actual makeup tutorial, showing how I applied the product. However, I have a few tips to add that will make the process easier.

TIP 1.

Exfoliate and moisturise your lips with a lip balm, this will give the lip colour a base to sit on and prevent the product from seeping into the cracks on your lips.

TIP 2.

Pick a lip pencil that is as close to Jet black as possible (Avoid using eye pencils and they will end up cracking your lips). Once you have found one, line your lips as accurately as possible and fill it in a little bit. This will help guide you when applying the lip colour.

TIP 3.

Pick a Jet black lipstick with a finish that you are comfortable with. I opted for a matte black liquid lipstick because it generally does not bleed or shift over time. I would recommend using a Matte liquid lipstick as the lasting power is generally good and it does not become patchy over time. I used Jeffree Star Cosmetics Liquid lipstick in Weirdo as it is a true Jet black colour and it lasts all day and it is very comfortable on the lips. This particular product is 100% Vegan and cruelty free.

If you decide to use a liquid lipstick, do not over apply or layer the product as it will cause it to crack. I generally use the same product on the wand throughout my application. Use the tip of the wand to gently outline the edges of your lips and then fill in your lips with the product that is left on the wand. Give the products a few minutes to dry before following through with the next tip.

If you decide to use a bullet lipstick, I recommend that you fill in your entire lips with the lip pencil to act as a base then apply the lipstick over it. This will prevent any patchiness and boost the
longevity of the lipstick.

TIP 4.

Get a cream based concealer that is an exact match to your skin colour, using a flat or angled brush, use the concealer to clean any mistakes you might have made during the application of the lip product. Also use the concealer to clean up all the edges, this will give the lip product a clean and sharp overall look. Be sure to blend out the edges, you can use your finger or a clean, small blending brush. Use your face powder to set the concealer, this step is key as it will help prevent the concealer from seeping into your smile lines and also prevent it from moving.

TIP 5.

Be sure to blend out all the edges with your finger.

I believe that any woman can rock a bold black lipstick, I have rocked it with a full face of makeup and with close to no makeup and both looks were stunning. Be bold, you can rock any colour and look fabulous doing it. It is only makeup after all, it can easily be washed off.
